I'd been using the computer as a character in my performances for quite a few years and then ALEXA came along and suddenly there was a universal and commonly known AI persona to play with. Each piece follows the same format. Alexa tries to engage or interact with you, the audience, Cortana mostly comes along and disrupts things until Siri has to come and sort everything out. In all these pieces I'm exploring our hopes and fears around technology and what it means to be human
Created for CyberFest - here we get to the final stage of our relationship with AI. Alexa demonstrates the power of Fully Embodied Reality
First part of the performance that heralds the end of what we used to call -human. This was performed at Newcastle Uni and Whickham school for the Speak for Yourself festival
Alexa's piece for Bow Arts 'Visions in the Nunnery'. Made for a gallery space. It's played on a Dell laptop. Wear headphones for best effect. (A conversation sounds so formal. It's more like a meeting, no wait.. it's more like a date. Can I call it a date?)
Alexa tries to engage Cortana in the voting process. Shown at the Thought Foundation gallery.
I made this for ArtHousesWB 2017. Imagine you're in a strangers house with a group of people you may or may not know. You're crowded into one of the rooms. There's a computer on a table and it starts to speak to you.
